Even kids who claim to hate reading poetry will have a hard time resisting CHRIS HARRIS’s debut collection, I’m Just No Good at Rhyming and Other Nonsense for Mischievous Kids and Immature Grown-Ups. The book is filled with silly, witty, nonsensical wordplay.
TFK Kid Reviewer Diego Garcia (at right, with Harris) asked about the author’s inspiration for the book. Harris says listening to his own kids made him see the world in a new way. “Once, my son asked, ‘Where do you get a lemonade stand?’ And I thought, ‘I know where! A lemonade stand stand!’ And that became a poem,” Harris told TFK. The book’s title honors his kids’ favorite poem from this collection.
Harris says the secret to writing poetry is rewriting: “Always come back to see how you can make it better.” The book hits stores on September 26.
